Fillers Q & A

What is a dermal filler?

A dermal filler is a type of injectable gel made of different materials that plump your skin, smoothes wrinkles, and reduces the appearance of fine lines so you look more youthful, yet natural. Sometimes your body absorbs the ingredients in the fillers over time while others ingredients remain, providing more long-term results.

The most common absorbable materials in fillers include collagen and hyaluronic acid, both of which your body produces naturally, but less so as you age. This results in looser, saggier skin and more wrinkles.

Fortunately, for adults who’d like to forego surgical procedures, dermal fillers can improve the appearance of:

  • Skin laxity and sunken cheeks
  • Fine lines and deep wrinkles
  • Lip lines and lines around your mouth
  • Nasolabial folds

At your consultation, your doctor and the aesthetic team explain how each one of the fillers works and which one is best for you.

Which dermal fillers are available?

At Chappell Rosso Dermatology and Laser & Aesthetic Center of the Permian Basin, you can get a variety of dermal fillers that address your skin concerns, including:

  • Juvéderm® products, including Voluma® XC
  • Restylane® family of fillers, including Restylane Lyft
  • Radiesse®
  • Belotero Balance®

Each of these fillers is FDA approved to provide temporary to long-lasting results against the outward signs of aging skin. Many of them contain hyaluronic acid and collagen, and some promote the production of new collagen from below the surface of your skin, so you continue to see improvements after your in-office treatment.

How long do the results of dermal fillers last?

Each filler is different, but most of them provide results that last from a few months up to two years, depending on the type of filler and the severity of your skin laxity or depth of your wrinkles. Dr. Rosso, Dr. Chappell, and the team advise you regarding which fillers will provide the results you desire. In some cases, you can schedule follow-up treatments for six months after your initial appointment.

If you want to add volume to plump up your cheeks and lips, smooth out lines and wrinkles around your mouth and nose, or reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, call the Odessa office to schedule a consultation or book one online.
